This pub is fantasic! Me and my family are from down south, and we came to North Yorkshire for a break. We were recommended to go to this pub for something to eat and a few drinks. The food was outstanding and the range of beer was great. We had a fantastic time, and will be coming up next easter for there great band nights. I recommend this pub to everyone!

I had heard very good reports of the fish and chips at this renowned pub and we made a deliberate detour to go for lunch.
The pub was very quiet only four other guests at the time when we ordered.
The barman who was visibly shaking for what reason I am not sure but did not appear to be accustomed to serving at table. He commented that he was not sure which side to place the knife and fork!
The food when it arrived looked very appetising. The fish was fresh and delicious and the batter very crisp. But the chips were leathery and old in texture. I came to the conclusion that they were left over from the night before and reheated in fat. They were inedible.
My husband who does not like a fuss and went to pay the bar man regardless. I went to speak to the chef who was leaning on the bar with his arms folded.
I thanked him for the fish but said the chips were old and inedible. He denied the chips were old but that he had a problem with his supplier. I said that in the circumstance we should have been warned not to order them. He shrugged his shoulders and continued to lie on the bar.
His attitude was totally unprofessional and uninterested.
I don't know who the landlord/owner is but I would be grateful if this information is passed on as his/her renowned establishment is in serious danger with that chef in charge.
